Greetings from a wet and rainy Bay Area,
Just a quick note to steer you all over to an article that Tiffany Saade and I put together for the second edition of the new journal The Republic.
This ended up being a trimmed down version of a larger piece on how humans can become too dependent on decision support tools, how we might detect that dependence, and how the tools might be engineered to help operators preserve their cognitive autonomy.
I’ll post the larger piece here eventually because I think this group might have a lot to say on some of the details we left out of the Republic article.
In the meantime please enjoy Human Cognitive Autonomy: Keeping People on the Loop in AI-driven Warfare at The Republic.
Feel free to post comments on that article here if not on the article page itself.
And of course, have a happy and safe Thanksgiving!
Thanks for continuing to refine this framework, sharing the process, and inviting feedback along the way.
